Frequently asked
questions
What is eScribe?
eScribe is a TurboTax-like tool for medical documentation, helping clinicians to document more data in less time with a higher accuracy. While medicine is an art (and there are an infinite set of edge cases), eScribe's goal is to help you complete 80% of the note in 1/10 of the time where you can focus on the last 20% that is unique for that specific case.
Is this HIPAA compliant?
Yes, we are fully HIPAA compliant and follow HITRUST best practices. Additionally, eScribe does not pull or store patient names, DOBs, or any other explicit identifying Patient Health Information. A clinician user, from within their EMR, manually connects data to be pushed from eScribe to a patient record.
If PHI is not stored in eScribe, how does it work?
To push an Encounter Form from eScribe to a patient record within the EMR, a clinician user in the EMR manually navigates to the correct patient record, grants eScribe permission to insert data, confirms the data push is correct for this patient, and only then will eScribe insert data. You must grant eScribe single-use permission every time it inserts data.
But I already have protocols, how is this different?
Protocols for the same procedure only differ by 1-4 data fields, but each protocol must be created from scratch. This takes a lot of time and it is hard to change later, only 1/40 doctors actually use protocols in regular practice. eScribe has “inter-plan” protocols, which means it uses the same base protocol combined with multiple variants. Since it uses the same base, it is very easy to create variations or change later.
Why does the form interface look weird?
Our goal for the data collection form was utility over prettiness. When designing the interface, we were inspired by how quickly and accurately fast-food workers complete surprisingly complex forms. We consulted with many designers from the makers of Chick-fil-a's and In-N-Out Burger's point-of-sale system when creating our interface.
